You’re Not Too Old.

You’re Not Too Old.
The Questions I Answer Every Week About MOXI® — From My Consultation Room.
By Debra K. Menke

From Deb’s Consultation Room…
I wish women would stop apologizing to me.
Not for being late.
Not for cancelling an appointment.
For their skin.
Almost every week, someone sits across from me and says one of these things…
“I know I should’ve started sooner.”
“I’ve waited too long.”
“I’m probably too old for this.”
This week, three different women asked me exactly that.
None of them were too old.
What they were feeling wasn’t really about MOXI®.
It wasn’t even about wrinkles.
It was the quiet fear that they’d somehow missed their chance.
As if healthy skin belongs only to women who started wearing sunscreen at twenty-two.
As if collagen follows a deadline.
As if confidence expires with age.
It doesn’t.
And that’s why I wanted to write this.
One of the unexpected privileges of my career is that women tell me the truth.
Not the polished version they post online.
The real version.
The version they whisper once the consultation room door closes.
They tell me they don’t recognize themselves in photographs anymore.
They tell me they’re tired of looking exhausted when they aren’t.
They tell me they don’t necessarily want to look younger.
They simply want to look like themselves again.
Healthier.
Brighter.
Rested.
Most people don’t come to The Mansion looking for a laser.
They come looking for answers.
So let’s talk about MOXI®.
Not the brochure version.
The real version.
Before We Talk About MOXI®, Let’s Talk About You.
Here’s something that surprises almost everyone who visits The Mansion for the first time.
We don’t begin by talking about lasers.
We begin by talking about you.
What brought you here?
What bothers you when you look in the mirror?
What do you already love about your skin?
What have you tried?
How much downtime actually fits your life?
Then I ask my favorite question.
“Where do you want your skin to be five years from now?”
Not before vacation.
Not before your daughter’s wedding.
Five years from now.
Because beautiful skin has never started with a laser.
It starts with a conversation.
Technology is remarkable.
Experience matters.
But understanding the woman sitting across from me matters even more.
Sometimes MOXI® is exactly the right answer.
Sometimes SkinPen® is.
Sometimes medical-grade skincare changes everything.
And sometimes, the best recommendation I make is to simply wait.
That may not be what people expect to hear.
But I’ve never believed my responsibility is to sell treatments.
My responsibility is to earn trust.
Everything else comes after that.
Why MOXI® Earned a Place at The Mansion
People often ask me how I would describe MOXI®.
If I had to explain it in one sentence, it’d be this:
It helps your skin behave more like healthy skin again.
Not younger-looking skin.
Healthier skin.
Because healthy skin reflects light differently.
It feels smoother.
Looks brighter.
Holds collagen better.
Responds better to skincare.
And ages more gracefully.
That’s why I love MOXI®.
It doesn’t try to change your face.
It doesn’t erase your expressions.
It doesn’t chase perfection.
Instead, it quietly encourages your skin to function the way healthy skin was designed to.
And to me…
That’s a much more beautiful goal.
Healthy Skin Doesn’t Come From Guessing.
One question I hear almost every day is…
“How aggressive can we be?”
It’s an understandable question.
But it’s not the question I ask myself.
The question I’m asking is…
“What’s the smartest way to get you where you want to go?”
Sometimes the right answer is a more aggressive approach.
Sometimes it’s a gentler approach.
Sometimes it’s combining technologies over time.
Sometimes it’s improving your skin’s health before we ever introduce a laser.
Every woman who sits across from me has lived a different life.
Different summers.
Different skincare habits.
Different hormones.
Different stress.
Different goals.
Different skin.
That’s why MOXI® isn’t one treatment.
It’s a technology.
Technology should never dictate the treatment plan.
The person sitting in front of me does.
Before Cori or I recommend anything, we’re looking at the whole picture.
Your skin.
Your history.
Your lifestyle.
How your skin heals.
How much downtime actually fits your life.
What you’re hoping to accomplish.
And where you want your skin to be five years from now.
That’s what consultation means to us.
Not asking how aggressive we can be.
Asking how thoughtful we should be.
One of the things I’ve spent more than two decades studying is the biology of the skin — how it responds to injury, how collagen remodels, and, just as importantly, how it heals.
That knowledge has shaped my philosophy.
I’ve never believed the most aggressive treatment is automatically the best treatment.
In many cases, beautiful, lasting results come from understanding the skin well enough to know when less truly is more.
Our goal isn’t to see how much your skin can tolerate.
Our goal is to create meaningful, healthy change while respecting the remarkable way your skin was designed to repair itself.
Experience isn’t measured by how aggressively you treat the skin.
It’s measured by knowing when to push forward, when to hold back, and why.
That’s the difference a thoughtful treatment plan can make.
One of My Favorite Parts of Owning The Mansion
The conversations don’t stop when our guests leave the consultation room.
Cori and I continue them all day long.
Between appointments.
Over lunch.
While we’re putting products away at the end of the day.
We’ll celebrate someone’s progress.
Study before-and-after photographs.
Talk about what made one treatment especially successful.
Challenge each other to think even more critically about the next plan.
I genuinely believe our guests benefit from that collaboration.
They’re not receiving one opinion.
They’re benefiting from two generations of estheticians who share the same philosophy.
Healthy skin first.
Beautiful skin naturally follows.
That philosophy influences every recommendation we make.
Not just the treatments we suggest.
But the treatments we don’t.
We obsess over skin.
It’s kind of our thing.
The Question Everyone Eventually Asks
“Okay… but does it hurt?”
I smile every time.
Not because it’s a silly question.
Because it’s an honest one.
And honest questions deserve honest answers.
The truth is, almost everyone imagines MOXI® is going to feel more intense than it actually does.
Part of that is because the word laser can sound intimidating.
But not all lasers are designed to work the same way.
MOXI® is a fractional, non-ablative laser. Rather than treating the entire surface of the skin, it creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones while leaving healthy tissue between them. Those untouched areas help your skin repair itself more quickly and comfortably.
It’s one of the reasons MOXI® has become such a trusted choice for refreshing skin with minimal downtime.
Before we begin, we apply a topical numbing cream and give it time to work.
During treatment, most guests describe the sensation as warmth with tiny prickles moving across the skin.
Is it completely comfortable?
No.
Is it as intimidating as people imagine?
Almost never.
One of my favorite moments happens after we’re finished.
Guests usually look at me, laugh, and say…
“That’s it?”
That reaction never gets old.
What Happens Afterward?
The next question usually follows pretty quickly.
“So… what am I going to look like tomorrow?”
The honest answer?
Probably better than you think.
For a day or two, your skin may feel warm and look slightly pink.
Then you’ll begin to notice tiny bronzed specks appearing across the skin.
Many guests tell me their skin feels like very fine sandpaper — or tiny coffee grounds.
That’s exactly what we expect.
Those tiny specks are simply your skin doing what it was designed to do. As your skin heals, those treated cells naturally rise to the surface and gently shed, revealing healthier skin beneath.
One of the things I love most about MOXI® is that it works with your skin — not against it.
Healing isn’t something happening to your skin.
It’s something your skin has always known how to do.
MOXI® simply reminds it to do what it was designed to do.
The Compliment I’m Hoping You’ll Hear
People often ask what kind of results they should expect.
It’s a fair question.
But my favorite answer isn’t measured in days or weeks.
It’s measured in conversations.
I’ve never hoped someone would stop you at the grocery store and say,
“You had laser.”
I’ve always hoped they’d say,
“You look rested.”
“Your skin looks incredible.”
“Have you been on vacation?”
There’s something beautiful about results that don’t announce themselves.
They simply leave people wondering what you’re doing differently.
Healthy skin doesn’t ask for attention.
It quietly earns it.
Can You Have MOXI® During the Summer?
This question finds its way into almost every consultation.
The answer surprises people.
Not because it’s simply yes.
And not because it’s simply no.
Because the real answer is…
“Tell me about your life.”
Do you spend every afternoon on the golf course?
Are you leaving for Mexico next week?
Do you work outside?
Are you diligent with sunscreen?
Do you actually wear the wide-brim hat you bought…
Or does it still have the tag on it?
Your lifestyle matters just as much as your skin.
That’s why blanket answers make me uncomfortable.
The treatment doesn’t change nearly as much as the person does.
And skin deserves more thought than that.
One Treatment… Or a Long-Term Relationship?
Another question I hear often is…
“Will one treatment be enough?”
Sometimes.
Sometimes not.
Healthy skin is a relationship.
Not a single appointment.
Some women want a beautiful refresh before a wedding or vacation.
Others are ready to improve years of accumulated sun damage.
Those are two completely different conversations.
Which is exactly why every plan should be personalized.
Because beautiful skin isn’t built in one afternoon.
It’s built one thoughtful decision at a time.
Why I Love The Mansion Stack™
If you’ve spent more than ten minutes with me, you’ve probably heard me talk about The Mansion Stack™.
Not because more treatments are better.
Because different technologies do different jobs.
MOXI® helps improve overall skin quality, pigmentation, and the visible effects of sun damage.
SkinPen® microneedling encourages healthy collagen remodeling and improves texture.
Medical-grade skincare helps protect everything we’ve accomplished between appointments.
When those pieces come together thoughtfully, they don’t compete.
They complement one another.
We’re not simply treating skin.
We’re investing in its future.
And that’s a very different philosophy.
The Question I Wish More Women Asked
Instead of asking…
“How long will my results last?”
I wish more women asked…
“What will my skin look like five years from now if I start taking care of it today?”
That’s the question that changes everything.
Because healthy skin isn’t built around one laser.
Or one facial.
Or one bottle of skincare.
It’s built through consistency.
Thoughtful decisions.
And a plan that’s designed specifically for you.
If You Were Sitting Across From Me…
I’d probably tell you something that surprises a lot of people.
I don’t believe there’s one “best” laser.
If there were, every aesthetic practice would own exactly one device.
Technology matters.
Experience matters.
But understanding the woman behind the skin matters even more.
That’s why every recommendation we make at The Mansion begins the same way.
With a conversation.
Not a sales pitch.
Because your skin has its own story.
It deserves a plan that’s written specifically for you.
Before You Go…
If you remember one thing from this article, let it be this.
Healthy skin isn’t created by chasing the newest treatment.
It’s created by understanding your skin, staying consistent, and choosing a provider who sees the whole picture — not just the next appointment.
That’s our philosophy at The Mansion.
And it’s one of the greatest privileges of my career to help our guests feel confident in the skin they’ll live in for the rest of their life.
Over the past year, we’ve watched our Founding Members’ skin become healthier, brighter, stronger, and more resilient with every visit.
The transformations have exceeded even my own expectations — which says a lot, because my expectations are incredibly high.
But what I’ll remember most isn’t what changed in their skin.
It’s the moment they stop apologizing for it.
When they catch a glimpse of themselves in the mirror…
pause…
and smile just a little longer than they used to.
I’ll never grow tired of that.
Because that’s never been the goal.
The goal has always been helping women recognize themselves again.
